Sproul takes charge

First he got rid of his chauffeur now the new head of Deloitte, David Sproul, is cutting the executive team down from 19 to 14 (ICAEW Council take note). He has also used the shake-up to bring in his own people as head of audit and consulting. Responding to increased government regulatory scrutiny Sproul has created a new post at the firm of public policy and risk and given it to Margaret Ewing.

PQ magazine’s Exam Review Board have posted their profession verdict of the May CIMA exams (full report in next issue). Overall felt to be a decent set of exams, although the performance pillar would have caused students most difficulties. P1 was ‘tough’ with sale mix variances causing problems. P2 also had mixed variances and NPV. The question is is performing NPV calculations in the P2 syllabus? PQ magazine will be published on 16 June.

AAT exam results update

AAT students are struggling with written tasks that make up section 2 of the FNPF paper, says the AAT’s assessment team in its latest report (found in full the next issue of PQ magazine). The pass rate of this paper has slumped to just 52.2% in February and the AAT said that while students are able to provide good answers to the tasks they would benefit from guidance on how much of the exam time they should allocate to each section of the CBT.
