What happened to the CIMA P2 pass rate?
17 October 2011
CIMA needs to do something about the Performance Management paper pass rates
P2 has been a perennial problem for CIMA and its PQs since the introduction of the new syllabus. While students moaned about the exams the pass rates stayed steady, until the September resit exam. This time around the P2 Performance Management paper pass rate slumped to just 31%. PQ magazine asked exam boss Graham Eaton what happened? He said: “P2 as you know is one of the appears that students find to be more challenging. We are analysing how students perform on this paper now that we have had a few exams in the new qualification, to see any particular areas which we can identify where improvements might be made, and we will work with tuition providers accordingly.”
Eaton revealed that a total of 5,400 students sat the September exams, which includes about 1,400 sitting the Part B Case Study. So on average there are around 400/500 sitters per paper (except E1 which has 300 students).
PQ magazine is now pushing for the CIMA March and September exams to be opened to all students, not just resit candidates. Eaton suggested that thisn is something that is being considered. “We have to ensure that any such plans work for our tuition partners,” he said.
