Keele University students have taken on the taxman
Keele University students have taken on the taxman because they believe the Student Union should be exempt from VAT as they are a 'cultural activity'. In a bid to get back £40,000 in Vat the union is arguing it is run on a voluntary basis by a non-profit-making business. The union is up against HMRC which wanted to know why bonuses where being claim by an organisation which was run on a voluntary basis.
