Alternative awards

Christian Aid recently announced the winners of its new Alternative Tax Awards. The categories included Tax Haven Enthusiast of the Year, Low Tax Rate Achievement and Most Surprising Use of Tax Havens. The awards draw attention to the devastating effect corporate tax dodging has on poor countries. Christian Aid has calculated that companies ‘avoid’ $160bn in taxes in the developing world every year. There is a cost! Christian Aid says the lives of some 350,000 children under five would be saved each year. And, the money going missing is ending up in tax havens. Christian Aid said that means accounting rules must be reformed to prevent this happening. So to some of the winners: Greatest Potential for Tax Reform Joint winners – PwC, KPMG, Ernst & Young, Deloitte Most Surprising Use of Tax Havens CDC Group plc & its sole owner the Department for International development (DFID).
