Exams aren’t fair

Accountancy bodies beware – accountancy students are increasingly prepared to question the exams that exclude them from the profession!

The current question not being asked by students is: who oversees the independence of the exams? That might be because the answer is no-one! All said and done this doesn’t take anything away from the stresses of exam process. So, while eve PQ magazine’s ACCA Exam Review Board (the only independent board around) said that the F9 was ‘fair overall’ many PQ sitters begged to differ! Students felt Q1 and parts of Q4 were ‘outside the syllabus’ and students were concerned that their tutors didn’t seem to know what was coming up. Increasingly students are also criticising the relationship between the bodies and their publishers. “The approved publishers didn’t have it in, so where can I get real advice from,” one ACCA PQ told us.
