Tesco payroll error
10 March 2017
Tesco is to reimburse 140,000 former and present employees with nearly £10m after payroll errors have led to staff not being paid the national minimum wage.
The UK’s biggest supermarket has notified HMRC about the ‘problem’.
It appears the errors were identified after the implementation of a new payroll system and are due to the voluntary contributions made by some staff to benefits such as pensions, childcare vouchers and cycle to work schemes. These resulted in pay of some staff falling below the national minimum wage.
UK CEO Matt Davies said that the company has apologised for the error.
